Allspice, also known as Jamaican pepper, was mistakenly named pepper and actually belongs to the myrtle family.
However, its taste carries the pungency of pepper, and its aroma is similar to cloves, in which notes of cinnamon and nutmeg can also be recognized. Even today, it only grows in Central America, we get it from there too.
In whole pieces it is one of the ingredients of our traditional mulled wine spice mix.
Store in a cool, dry place, away from sunlight.
