Sumac

Sumac is a typical spice of Lebanese cuisine, but it is also widely used in Syrian, Turkish and Iranian dishes.

Slightly astringent and pungent, yet sour-fruity, with a citrus taste and a scent reminiscent of vinegar.

Great for meat dishes as well as pickled vegetable dishes  it can be added to beets and beans as well.

It adviseable to buy it in a specialised store because some members of the sumac family are toxic.

Store in a cool, dry place, away from sunlight.
