Long pepper (Piper Longum) belongs to the pepper family and, like black pepper, has a pungent but slightly sweet and sour taste.
Although it was already used in ancient Rome as a spice on a par with black pepper, long pepper has become a real rarity in Europe. Its use is much more common in India, Nepal, and Indonesian and Malay cuisine.
Worth a try, a really interesting spice that might remind us to longish tiny pine cones. It can be used to flavour any dish where we replace black pepper with long pepper.
Store in a cool, dry place, away from sunlight.
